Library and Reading Room:
Jubilee Hills Public School has a very spacious Library with good stack area. It is well ventilated and air conditioned. It has a separate Reference section cum Reading room for teachers and senior students to refer the books and browse internet which support their teaching, learning process.
Library is well equipped with a good collection of books, CDs and Periodicals. It has more than 15500 books of different categories which include a wide range of reference books. All the reference books are stacked in the Reference Section. Library has a collection of nearly 630 CDs which cover different subjects. School Cinema – a package of value based movies will be shown to the students which help to improve the values in the students. Library subscribes 42 magazines and various newspapers of English, Hindi and Telugu which help the students to improve their general and current awareness. Library follows Dewey Decimal Classification for classifying the books which is based on subject classification. Books are arranged on the racks based on these class numbers. Entire library is fully automated. My Classboard Software is used for automation of the collection and inhouse operations of the library. The computerized catalogue (OPAC) which saves the time of teachers and students is made available for staff and students on the intranet.
Facilities in the Library:
Library is facilitated with the equipment which fulfills the needs of teachers and students. There is an I -board and a computer with internet in the reference section. There is a Projector with Screen in Audio Visual Room in the library to show movies and educational CDs to students. Xerox and printing facility is provided to the teachers and for students at the time of project work.
Library is providing its services through fully automated transactions. Students of classes LKG to XII have one library period every week. Books will be given to the students of classes I to IIIto read in their library period. Students of classes IV to XII will come to the library in their library period. These students can take home one book at a time for a period of one week by using their Library Cards. Books can be renewed for one more week. All the teachers have one period for Library in their Time Table.
Book Week is celebrated in the school in the month of November every year. The main objective of the program is to inculcate the reading habit among children. As part of these celebrations competitions at different levels are conducted for the students. ‘DEAR’ – Drop Everything and Read is conducted in which the entire school including the sub staff engage themselves in reading. Guest lectures, Book Fairs and skits are conducted during the week.
Book Fair is conducted once in every term to motivate the students to read new books and update themselves with the information of new publications.
e-Library is started recently. School has procured 41 kindle devices which will be used by the students to access e-books of various genres. This facility is named as ‘Kindle Club’. Various activities like Book Review, Story writing, Author talks will be conducted under this club. CDs of movies and other subject areas will be shown in the library to the students of all classes once in a month. Book Clubs and Book fairs are conducted every year to improve the interest in reading among children.
In case students fail to return the books in time, overdue fine of Re.1 per day with minimum of Rs. 5.
