The CBSE South Zone Lawn Tennis Tournament, 2015-16 organized by Jubilee Hills Public School got off to a colorful start at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad. About 400 students from 55 schools of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry are taking part in this event.
The Chief Guest, Sri. A. Dinakar Babu, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Sports Authority of Telangana State declared the tournament open and administered the oath to the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Sri. A. Dinakar Babu, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Sports Authority of Telangana State welcomed the participants to one of the best Tennis courts in India where stalwarts like Sania Mirza and Martina Navratrilova had played. He quoted the Olympic Motto Citius – Altius – Fortius, meaning Faster – Higher – Stronger and asked the participants to strive forward to become better players.
Welcoming the Chief Guest, the Principal, Ms. M. Varalakshmi acknowledged the elite presence of Sri. A. Dinakar Babu and thanked him for gracing the occasion. She thanked the Chief Guest for providing the venue. She also thanked the sponsors S N S Green Project and Shradda Badminton Academy.
In the opening sequence of the ceremony the audience was treated to an energizing aerobic performance. The Chairman of JHPS, Sri. A. Murali Mukund, Managing Committee Members, ITF Chief Referee Sri. Shiva Reddy and his team of referees, JHPS Tennis Coach Sri. Neelakanteshwar Rao were present on the occasion. Ms. Ch. Jyothsana, P.E Co-ordinator,JHPS proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Hindi Diwas was celebrated in a grand manner to show appreciation towards the National Language – ‘Hindi’.
Hindi Diwas is celebrated as an event every year on 14th of September, because the Hindi language (written in Devanagari script) was first adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India as the official language of the Republic of India on 14th of September, 1949.
On this occasion, children presented a variety of programmes.
The Principal, Ms M.Varalakshmi congratulated the students for their wonderful performance and appreciated the teachers.
The Academic Director, Ms.G Sree Devi, asked the students to learn, understand and communicate the language in an appropriate way.

The students of Jubilee Hills Public School celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with great pomp and gaiety. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. The festival is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Ganeshotsav.
The session started with a traditional lamp lighting and aarthi. Children showcased dances, songs and skits depicting the importance of Lord Vinayaka. The Principal, Ms.M.Varalakshmi said that one should not forget the culture, tradition and importance of celebrating festivals. The Primary Headmistress, Ms. Sonia Nagpal asked the students to celebrate the festival with joy and devotion. The Chairman, Sri. A. Murali Mukund graced the occasion.

A Career Guidance workshop was conducted for students of classes XI and XII on 9th September, 2015, to educate the students about the evaluation process of applications in the U.S Universities and their presentation skills. Ms. Jayashree Patel, co-coordinator, KIC Univ Assist, briefed the students on preparing a winning application essay which would enhance the students’ ability to write global centric essays. She explained in detail about the Scholarship Application Process to the Universities in the United States of America.
She spoke to students about different scholarships, their requirements, the work and earn culture and suggested ways to achieve them. She concluded by saying that on the whole the student’s holistic approach is recommend and preferred.
The representatives of different universities like Valparaiso University, University of California, Riverside- University of California, Longwood University, Furman University, Emerson College, Bowling Green State University and Binghamton University spoke about various courses offered by them. An interactive session with the representatives of the Universities was organized for the students to clarify their queries.

Since 1962, India has been celebrating Teachers’ Day on 5th September the birth anniversary of Dr. Radhakrishnan to honor the contribution made by teachers to society. Every student celebrates this day to acknowledge and support the contribution of his or her teacher. This day is also celebrated to honor Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the great teacher, academic philosopher and India’s Second President as he was born on the same day in 1888. Dr. Radhakrishnan was a strong supporter of education.
The students celebrated the day with full zeal and enthusiasm. It was a day of delight for the teachers to see the talents of their students who had taken part and had put in their heart and soul to put up a wonderful programme for their teachers.

Janmashtami, a festival of Hindus, is celebrated to mark the birth of “Lord Krishna” on earth. The school celebrated the festival with enthusiasm. The children presented a variety of programmes. The awesome dance performances enthralled the audience. The young ones took part in a traditional ‘Dahi Handi’ event as a tribute to Natkhat Kanha who always loved to eat stolen butter with his group of friends. The function won the heart of the audience.

Jubilee Hills Public School organized the ‘Childhood Obesity Awareness Programme’ on 4th September, 2015 in the school premises. As part of this programme, a Walk World Walkathon was conducted in the vicinity of the school. This was done to create awareness about obesity. The programme was held from 9 a.m to 12 noon. The school observed the day as ‘Yellow Day.’ More than 700 students dressed in yellow T-Shirts given by the management participated in the walk.
Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents. Many students have been observed to be well above the normal weight for their age and height. They have been found to have health problems that were once confined to adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Uma Koduri from the USA. She is the Founder of Walk World Walkathon Organization; Diplomate American Board of Internal Medicine; Chair, GAPIO Nutrition and Obesity Initiative; Former Chair AAPI Childhood Obesity Committee and Founder and Former President, AAPI Tulsa Chapter. She conducted the awareness programme in 70 schools in the USA and in India, JHPS is the pilot project.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Uma Koduri, spoke about the 5-2-1-0 Magic where the number 5 stands for eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day, 2 stands for two hours or less of recreational screen time, 1 stands for one hour or more of physical activity, and 0 stands for 0 sugary drinks and using more water and low fat milk.
Dr. Rakesh Sahay, Endocrinologist asked the children to eat well, sleep well and be happy. He said that obese children suffer from heart diseases. He requested the students to educate their family and friends about obesity.
Dr. Naunihal Singh, a Pediatrician said that food is the fuel for the body. He also warned that India was on its way to become the global capital of diseases. We must make our population healthy and this initiative has to be taken right from childhood.
Cardiologist, Dr. K.M.K Reddy congratulated JHPS for taking the initiative to conduct the programme. He spoke about under nutrition in children becoming over nutrition. He also said that malnutrition was prevalent in children and asked the students to understand what to eat and what not to eat.
Dr. Janaki Srinath, a Nutritionist said that JHPS has taken the first step in the massive initiative to control obesity. She said that students should inculcate healthy habits and adopt a healthy life style. She asked the students to take a good amount of protein in their diet.
Mr. Sanjay Thumma, renowned nutritionist and chef of vahrehvah.com fame advised the students to learn how to cook healthy food and said that healthy children result in a healthy nation.
The Chairman, Sri A. Murali Mukund said that the school was fortunate to have eminent people from all fields. He stated that JHPS has started the process of creating awareness about obesity which is the root cause of many diseases. He narrated a story related to the topic and asked the children to take care of their health.
The Principal, Ms. M. Varalakshmi, said that obesity is increasing at an alarming rate and measures have to be taken to curb it. She spoke about the Childhood Obesity Awareness Programme being the first of its kind in India. She thanked Dr. Prasad Rao for conducting a Health Camp for staff and students of the school.
Surya Namaskar, Zumba Dance, song and a speech had the audience enthralled.
The Academic Director, Ms. G. Sree Devi proposed the Vote of Thanks. She thanked all the eminent guests and the management for taking the initiative in spreading awareness about obesity.
