Thyagaraja Aradhanotsavam

JHPians paid a pious and hearty tribute to the Saint Thyagaraja to celebrate the ‘Thyagaraja Aradhanotsavam’ on 31st January, 2020.

The programme started with the ritual of the Thyagaraja procession followed by ‘Sri Ganesha Keerthana’ by the students and the music teachers. The devotional lamp was lit by all the dignitaries to invoke the Lord’s blessings.Students in a large group sang devotional songs accompanied by Lekhya our Nightingale who sang two solos ‘Bantu Riti’ and ‘Vandanamu Raghunandana’. The music teachers and children also sang in a group, accompanied with the dholak. A righteous tribute was duly paid to the saint, who attained his heavenly abode on Pushya Bahula Panchami day in 1847.

Thyagaraja Kirtanalu ‘Abhista Varada’, ‘Bantu Riti’, ‘Rama Naamam Bhajare’ and ‘Rama Rama Nivaramu, ‘Namo Namo Raghavaya’, ‘Vandanamu Raghunandana’and ‘Ramachandraya Mangalam, ‘were rendered by both the students as well as the teachers. The programme concluded with ‘Jaya Mangalam’ to Sri Thyagaraja. The parents and the student audience were deeply moved and joined in the chorus to sing and keep time with their clapping.

We are grateful to the Music Department, students and teachers for continuing the legacy in making the past alive by presenting the programme and creating an aura of serenity and piety with the kirtanas and Aarti as the finale to the programme.
