Field Trip – Class 10 JHPS

The class 10 field trip was organized to visit the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI), Hyderabad, on 31st August 2024. The students were requested to carry few materials for designing like old clothes, and basic stationary items. The students departed at 9:00 am from the school and arrived at their destination of 9:20 am. Upon arriving they got to know that the institute is a part of Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The importance of FDDI was recognized by FDDI Act, 2017. Upon entering the institute, we see a very spacious and well-organized campus. Students who were accompanied by their respective class teachers and the secondary coordinator were registered for their visit. The whole campus was updated with latest cutting-edge technology. The abstract paintings on the walls and the artwork put up on the walls showcased the creativity of the students of the institution. Achievements of the faculty and alumni was also displayed.
The students of JHPS were guided to the seminar hall 1 which had the capacity of about 150-200 people. A draping workshop was conducted for the students. The workshop started at 9:40 am with Ms. Jyoti Priya, the senior faculty of Fashion Design department requesting the students to separate into groups 6 or 7. Followed by the students sketching the dress they wanted to design. Later each group got 1 body foam to bring their ideas to life. After designing which was supervised by senior students and faculty of the institution, the students were taken for a campus tour.
The tour started with the visit to the LLAB lab where metal and wooden products are designed and manufactured. Next students moved on to the LLPD lab where leather products were developed. Followed by Fashion Designing construction lab (sewing) and Pattern making lab. Lastly, we arrived at the footwear lab.
Our next destination was the COE (Centre of Excellence building located within the campus. The COE is built for overall development using digitalized machinery. It included the CAD/CAM design studio (pattern and laser cutting), Advance printing studio (digital fabric printing), Product development lab (computerized embroidery machine, cup molding machine and quilting machine) and lastly the Knitting studio.
Our last stop was ŚAILI, the student display store. The store showcased the products designed by the students which changes every semester. On the recent handloom day, the handloom sarees were converted into western cloth pieces. Kalamkari clothes were also showcased.
The trip was finally completed with a group photo which was taken in memory of the field trip. The student’s departure at 1 pm and arrived at JHPS at 1:20 pm accomplishing their agenda for the day and not only learning how to design but also knowing the different and interesting careers available.
