Workshop in Careers in Design

Creativity and innovation are at the heart of countless career opportunities in today’s rapidly evolving world. As students are at the crossroads of making choices among different career options, Jubilee Hills Public School has taken the initiative to help them explore various paths for their future. One such path is design.

Today, each brand relies on design to establish its identity and build a strong reputation. Design is a growing industry that ensures a bright future and offers immense opportunities. To introduce the career of design and its specializations to the students, a workshop was organized on 19.12.2024 featuring Miss Nishigandha, an MIT graduate specializing in visual design and a graduate from Harvard in instructional design. She is currently employed at Lottiefiles and has worked in Accenture, Elephant Design, etc.

Miss Nishigandha is also a mentor for young design aspirants to get into a college of their choice. She started her session by demonstrating how important practical designs are in our daily lives and gave examples of how poorly thought-out designs, can lead to unintended messages.

She then headed on to dismiss some common misconceptions society often has of designers, labeling them as ‘struggling artists’. She explained how design is a completely different field from fine arts and architecture. She proceeded to discuss the different streams in design, i.e., Product, Transport, Furniture, and Retail, giving a detailed explanation of each.

She explained the examinations that one would need to pursue in order to acquire a career in Design. She talked about the top colleges and the courses available and gave an overall review of each college. She also gave tips and statistics to the students who would have unwilling parents in order to convince them.

In conclusion, the workshop provided a comprehensive view of the design industry. We thank Miss Nishigandha for this engaging and enlightening session, which offered students valuable insights into the vast potential of a career in design.
